Round and Round the Crochet Hook Review

One of the things I like the most about crochet is the infinite design possibility. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, something new will catch my eye, and I’ll fall in love all over again with the craft. Flipping through Round and Round the Crochet Hook by Emily Littlefair of The Loopy Stitch. I’ve been treated to page after page of clever and beautiful designs that all fuel my passion for crochet. Emily’s book is a great addition to the wonderful lineup of crochet books offered by Tuva Publishing.

The format

Like most modern crochet books, Round and Round the Crochet Hook includes not only carefully written instructions, but also intricate charts and beautifully styled photographs of the finished projects. Each pattern includes a section on special stitches so that you do not need to flip back and forth from the pattern to a stitch glossary. There is also a a brief section at the back on crochet basics and techniques.

Wool and the Gang

the patterns

I know a crochet book is good when I have to agonize over which project to start first! There are so many patterns in Round and Round the Crochet Hook that catch my eye. The project gallery at the front of the book offers an overview of all 18 patterns. A quick glimpse reveals patterns for mandalas, cushions, garlands, coasters, and more.

What I would consider to be the feature pattern of the book is Winnie’s Wonderland Blanket, showcased in two gorgeous colorways.

The Project

I’ve started to dig my hook into Winnie’s Wonderland Blanket, using a single ball of Scheepjes Whirl, and have been delighted with it so far. The instructions are easy to read and accurate, and as I stated above, I appreciate not needing to flip back and forth to access definitions of the special stitches. I can’t wait to continue on with squaring off the central circle of the blanket, which would also make a lovely stand alone mandala or table decoration. I’ll be sure to share photos on Instagram once I’ve finished it.

The upshot

I’m excited to revisit the beautiful patterns of Round and Round the Crochet Hook in the future. One of my favorite features of the book is the variability of project sizes. While some, like the blanket, are more involved, there are others, including coasters and doilies, that could easily be made in a few hours. If you’re looking for a crochet pattern book that is heavy on eye popping design and color, easy to read patterns and charts, and a range of gorgeous home decor projects, Round and Round the Crochet Hook is sure to please!
